It’s a story about a girl in her last year of High School who is juggling her studies, paying the bills with her two year old daughter while having big dreams of becoming a chef. Seriously, be prepared to have snacks ready when you read this book! 😂

I really enjoyed it. It was easy, light, had a good storyline and was very well written. Really short chapters so it’s a fast read. Acevedo has captured the teenage years perfectly as it felt authentic and heartfelt. This is not your typical high school story, it has depth. It doesn’t shy away from struggles or hardships but Acevedo manages to keep the story hopeful. I love Emoni as a character. She is strong, funny, passionate and you are really rooting for her. I found her so inspiring and just such a ray of light. To be honest, all the characters in this book were likeable and felt genuine. They all made an impression on Emoni’s life and added meaning to the story. I finished this book with a massive smile on my face and a bowl full of ice cream. 😄

With The Fire on High is a vibrant, heart warming story and full of soul. A very zestful book which celebrates culture, food, family and loving yourself. Definitely recommend it you enjoy YA.
