My first impression on this book was how well thought out the development of the characters are. I was instantly hooked and wanted to learn more about Emoni and her past. The story is about a 17 year old girl Emoni Santiago and her 2 year old daughter Emma. It shows all the changes in her life and the tough decisions that she has to make as a teen mum. I love how we learn about the characters around her and their influences on her life for example her grandma who helps her take care of her daughter Emma and the relationship with her best friend. I also love the recipe at the start of the book which I think is such a lovely detail. The art on the cover is beautiful and definitely drew me in to picking this book. I like the casual style of writing that feels like a conversation between you and the character because it felt I could engage with the story and make the characters more relatable.
