“With the Fire on High” is a book about a high schooler who gets pregnant her freshman year. It follows her journey through her senior year as she applies to colleges and attempts to make good grades while bringing up her child at the same time. Emoni has a passion for cooking but knows if she wants to study this she has to leave other parts of her life behind. This book tells a high school story about troubles with dating, applying to college, hanging out with friends, and studying hard to get good grades. While at the same time also telling a story of a young girl with a child and the problems she faces with the father, his family, and her own family. Emoni is an amazing character and person who still manages to do things she is passionate about while juggling many different problems most high schoolers do not have to face.
This book was so good I could not put it down. I read it all in one day and did not do any of my homework to finish it. 100% a must read!
