I really liked this book! It had a ton of awesome elements like a mix of cultures, teenage angst, relationships at home, pregnancy in adolescence, coming of age factor. It also didn’t feel like it was simply thrown in there, all the subjects presented were so well developed by the author and the way Elisabeth Acevedo intertwined them all, was really crafty.

I liked Emoni's character and I was glad that she was able to have a bit of character growth throughout the plot. When I say a bit, is because I wish I could've seen more maturing from her part. Although I understood what she was going through and that having to constantly put someone else on the first place is not easy, I really wish I could've seen her stand up a bit more regarding specific aspects of her life (her former boyfriend, being one of them). It’s definitely worth a read. I'm really looking forward to getting acquainted with more of Elisabeth Acevedo's work, she is a true poet!!
