I really enjoyed this book. It is set in modern America, and it follows a young woman who is trying to balance caring for her child with her ambitions to train as a chef.
The themes of food and family are really intertwined, and create a warm and loving environment for the reader to view the characters through. There are of course ups and downs and big challenges in pursuing her goals, and while there is some romance in her life, the main emphasis is on her commitment to herself and her child, which is just wonderful.
The characters are all interesting and thoughtful portrayals of young and old people alike, and it is wonderful to read about a teenage mother in such a kind and skillfully written novel.
This is a story of hopes and dreams and love, and it made me want to appreciate food all the more.
