Delicious Read
This book was delicious! Here’s why....
1. All that cooking and food made me hungry
2. Emoni is the sweetest character with a heart of gold
3. Emoni’s love for her daughter and grandmother is beautiful to read and Acevedo writes a ‘mother’s heart’ so well
4. It’s magic. I loved the magical element of Emoni’s cooking, helping people access memories as they eat. It was such a nice touch to the book
5. Short Chapters- just because that’s always a win!
6. The cover! Have u seen the cover! Just Wow!
This book has everything. It’s quite character driven focusing on Emoni and her struggles. Acevedo’s take on the importance of family is wonderful and she has a lot of important representation in this book; single mothers, LGBT+, black/brown communities/history, money struggles, abandonment and she writes it all so well. This is not a heavy book by all means, it’s easy to read and it’s a simple story but it carries importance messages that we all need to hear.
