This story had me interested from the very beginning. I loved Emoni's character and the description of her relationship with Babygirl. This book pulls no punches when talking about difficult issues like underage sex and teenage pregnancy, but does it all with a warmth and realism that makes the family an immediate draw to the reader.

It's impossible to review this book without discussing the incredible descriptions of the food that are at the heart of Emoni's story as well. It's a book you can't read whilst hungry. The author obviously has both a great appreciation of food and also an understanding of it. Food is used almost as a gateway into the family and culture that surrounds Emoni, and provided me with an immediate way to get to know her.

All of the characters were vibrant and jumped off the page from their first introduction.
