The first look really drew me into this, the dialogue is very believable so that you feel part of the characters’ world straight away. I was instantly interested in Emoni and her background and wanted to know more about her, and how having a daughter so young has changed her life. It evoked real empathy in me from the first page and the theme of food, and cultural importance of food is something I’ve never really come across in novels I’ve chosen before. Whilst American, I feel it completely resonates with readers of other nationalities from the first page. I would certainly consider reading the rest from the first look. I look forward to seeing how Emoni makes it all work and who she meets on the way!
