This book was absolutely brilliant, Emoni is such a great main character and feels totally believable with her motivations and decisions. There was some great commentary on bigger issues which I also enjoyed. The pacing was really good and I loved the recipes that were dispersed throughout the book. Overall it was the passion for cooking that really shone through with this book giving it a warm, homely vibe. In no way is this book perfect in my opinion but it was refreshing and I highly enjoyed it.
Really you cannot go wrong with Elizabeth Acevedo and as someone who has read most, if not all, of her published works I can see how this book is a great addition to her repertoire. This is in a standard narrative as opposed to verse like her other books, whilst I am sure this might not be to everyone's taste, was really great for me personally. It still flowed beautifully and was a joy to read.
