Elizabeth Acevedo perfectly captures the mind of a freshman in America, combined with her young child, and her passion for cooking, this combination made for a heartwarming, moving, and beautiful story.

Firstly, and undeniably, the cover of this book is absolutely breathtaking. The colour combinations are beautiful, the theming perfect for the story, and I'm just in awe of the outpouring of talent.

This is a book that I highly recommend to friends who love young adult fiction, but want more diversity than the usual suspects (ACOTAR, Cruel Prince, etc) on their shelves.

The writing made me extremely hungry; I felt proud of the protagonist, protective of her daughter and her beautiful family, but also frustrated at the very real obstacles she had to face. I loved getting into the perspective of a high schooler in today's society. Elizabeth is a true talent!
