It took me so long to finally get to this book but when I did I enjoyed it so so much. The writing was so amazing and the way the author described the food made me so so hungry every time. I also loved the characters in this book and I just loved the way the author wrote every character as though they were real…flawed but so human.
The structure of the story was also so appreciated. The author was able to write a story that packed a heavy punch, was so atmospheric, with characters that were so fully fleshed out it felt like I knew them, whilst also ensuring that the story didn’t drag.
The only dealt criticism I have for this book is that the writing is slightly juvenile for my tastes but that is more of a personal preference than a flaw on the authors part. But so far as her writing style hiring the brief in that it was appropriate for a YA audience, then Elizabeth Acevedo definitely deserved five out of five stars.
