Loved it
Acevedo beautifully tells the story about Emoni, a Puerto-Rican who became pregnant when she was 14 years old. Now, in high school, she needs to decide what she wants from her future. As a young single mother, Emoni doesn't have an easy life and needs to make sacrifices for her Baby Girl.
Emoni loves cooking and her skills are described as magical by her "abuela". I loved the description of her cooking and it was a nice touch to insert short recipes into the book.
Her food brings feelings up and similarly, my feelings were fussed while reading the story. It's heartwarming and it made me cry and smile at different moments.
I didn't have high expectations for this book but it was a pleasant surprise. I loved the book from start to end and I devoured it in a few hours (spread along 2 days. :) )
I really enjoyed the author's writing style, direct to the point (without nonsense descriptions) and dividing the story into short chapters, making the reading to flow effortlessly. A perfect light read with a gorgeous book cover!
