Acevedo beautifully tells the story about Emoni, a Puerto-Rican who became pregnant when she was 14 years old. Now, in high school, she needs to decide what she wants from her future. As a young single mother, Emoni doesn't have an easy life and needs to make sacrifices for her Baby Girl.⁣⁣

Emoni loves cooking and her skills are described as magical by her "abuela". I loved the description of her cooking and it was a nice touch to insert short recipes into the book. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Her food brings feelings up and similarly, my feelings were fussed while reading the story. It's heartwarming and it made me cry and smile at different moments. ⁣⁣

I didn't have high expectations for this book but it was a pleasant surprise. I loved the book from start to end and I devoured it in a few hours (spread along 2 days. :) )⁣⁣

I really enjoyed the author's writing style, direct to the point (without nonsense descriptions) and dividing the story into short chapters, making the reading to flow effortlessly. A perfect light read with a gorgeous book cover!⁣⁣
