"Girl, it's time to step into your own light and stop being afraid" - Elizabath Acevedo, With The Fire on High.

What a brilliant book. This is overall such a lovely read. It lived up to all it was hyped up for. I am really hoping there will one day be a sequel.

Emoni is a young teenage mum with a passion for cooking. She needs to balance her life of motherhood, co-parenting, school, a part-time job and college applications. She joins the Culinary Arts Class and has to start to push herself; so far her whole life has been looking after Babygirl but cooking is her dream. Then she meets Malachi, but can she trust another man after her previous 'relationship'? Will she save up enough money to get to go to Spain? Emoni's journey and decisions are similar to ones all young adults go through as they move into the adult world. It is so easy to relate to the decisions and the characters.

There are so many things I loved about the book. Firstly, the cover and artwork in the book are beautiful. I liked the style of writing and how short the chapters are. For me, reading hundred of page long chapters can be hard for me. The shorter chapters made me want to keep turning, but I also had suitable places to put it down. This is an easy reading and enjoyable book with a good story line and characters. I can't really fault it. I just really hope there is a second! I am left wanting to know what Emoni's future holds!
