When it comes to books that focus on a character's hobbies, I always find myself hesitant to dive in. Because how is the author going to keep me as interested in it as the protagonist is? It just seems like an impossible feat in my head.
So, when going into With the Fire on High, I was definitely hesitant, but I definitely didn't need to be. Elizabeth Acevedo does an amazing job at keeping me invested in the characters and their lives - so much so that it was difficult to put the book down (which I had to do, because the food descriptions made me so hungry that I had to take some snack breaks).
There were some areas where I would have loved to linger a little longer within the book, which I would say is one of the only flaws, though this really just shows how great the characters and settings are (you just can't help but make you wish they'd stick around more).
A great book that I would absolutely recommend to any YA lover, and definitely one of my favourites.
