There are not enough words that could convey the emotions I felt while reading this book. The beautiful,vibrant cover really sets the tone and dynamic for the rest of the book. When I had first read the blurb I instantly resonated with Maya Angelou and her hurdles when she was also pregnant during her teen years and how similar this story sounded to it and I was completely and utterly already hooked! The fact that this book talked about subjects which are seen as taboo in society such as teen pregnancy for example really made it more interesting and amazing to read. This book to me is a modern twist and a flair of feminism to Maya Angelou’s times. The strength and determination that Emoni displays is so admirable. It was definitely a gripping read and has therefore lead me to recommend it to my friends and family who have also like me fell in love with the book.
