This book is perfect for getting out of a reading slump. It is written in verse and the plot flows very easily. I finished this book in a day.

Emoni has a daughter but also is in high school. This poses a great challenge when she is trying to kick start her career as a chef. She is gifted in the kitchen and her food can bring people to tears. All she wants is to be able to share her gift. She is however not sure she will be able to afford the time and money it takes to go to culinary school.

A culinary arts class opens at her school and Emoni goes for the chance to improve her culinary talents. There is a trip to Spain in the class. Emoni is thrilled because she can finally discover her heritage and where she comes from. A lot of Emoni's cooking is inspired by Spanish cuisine.

I loved this book! Elizabeth Acevedo never ceases to amaze me in her writing and the characters in her books. I would definitely recommend this book!
