I absolutely adored this book. I have read every book Elizabeth Acevedo has wrote and I love them all but this was really good. I thought Emoni was a really great main character and I loved being in her point of view. The food atmosphere was really lovely and I thought the culture aspects of the story were really important and taught me things I didn’t know. The cover of this book is absolutely gorgeous and I just love it. Elizabeth Acevedo’s writing just really works for me and I enjoyed the romance aspect of the story too. Recently, I have been against reading young adult fiction as it doesn’t do much for me anymore as the characters often read too young. However, that wasn’t the case With the Fire on High. I loved that Emoni had a daughter as this gave her responsibility and accountability which you don’t really see from young adult main characters.
