This story spoke to my heart on a level I cannot explain. I absolutely loved the story and felt as though she truly brought the main character and her situation to life. Thank you for this absolute and brilliant work of art. Black and brown girls around the world thank you for letting us be seen and heard. The writing in this book was so beautiful, the recipes made me hungry, and I’m not ashamed to admit I shed more than just a few tears while reading this. I really connected with the characters, rejoiced when they did, cried when they did, etc... I was sad to close this book at the end, but filled with so much joy after reading it. This is definitely worth the read! I loved how Emoni had an email relationship with her aunt who would send recipes for Emoni to try. I loved Emoni's relationship with her Buela and how she wanted what was best for her daughter Emma while pursuing her passion for cooking. I highly recommend this book.
