With The Fire On High is a YA book about not only figuring out what you're going to do with your life but also developing as a person. The writing in this was fantastic, you can definitely tell that Elizabeth writes poetry. It is so fast paced and the chapters were short and to the point- something I absolutely love. I liked the main character, I think I've only read one other book from the perspective of a teen mum and I loved that this followed her a few years after having her child.
There were only a few things I would change in this book. I did find the whole cooking aspect of this book a bit much as I don't cook, so this part didn't really interest me.
I also thought this would have done better as a New Adult book. I found the love interest to be way too mature for his age, so putting him at college age would have made this more believable for me.
Overall though, this was a really fun and quick paced book, something I'd recommend for YA contemporary lovers.
