Emoni’s story was so rich and her love for family and food could be felt through every page! Elizabeth Acevedo’s writing is just sublime and I enjoyed every second of reading this story!
It was interesting to follow a story about a high schooler that wasn’t just your average girl. Emoni had so much depth and seeing how she lives her day to day life juggling school, a part time job and being a mom made her character much more likeable as I was able to root for her and hope that she will eventually achieve her dreams.
I like that love wasn’t a main aspect of the story and it was more about Emoni’s journey as a person rather than needing a partner to feel fulfilled. I can’t wait to read more from Elizabeth Acevedo in the future!
