This book is absolutely gorgeous. The concept of a young mother working to achieve her dreams while raising her young child and supporting her grandmother may seem like a simple one, but when you add in the elegance and enchantment of the descriptions of the foods, the story truly comes to life.
This book is outside my usual genre of fantasy and sci-fi, and for this reason I was sceptical at first, but after diving head first into this book, I was hooked. The terms used to describe the flavours and spices used by the main character in her cooking are on another level, and I was quickly transported into this world.
Even if you aren’t familiar with this more realistic genre of writing, in which the events take place in a very real world, give it a go. I promise you won’t be disappointed. And even if the cooking themes aren’t your thing, I’m sure you’ll be hooked on the interwoven love story.
