The author describes in detail the different levels of taste that dance on your tongue when you eat Emoni’s food and as you progress you realise that this novel is also multi layered. The author is as accomplished at her craft of writing as Emoni is at cooking up a feast. Acevedo weaves a tale of family, of love, the challenges of changing from a teenager into an adult and the delight of finding a similar soul in the complicated journey of life.
