First of all: cover goals! This cover is absolutely stunning, as Elizabeth Acevedo's always are. So bright and pretty! I love Elizabeth Acevedo. She is an auto-buy author from me ever since I read The Poet X, which was such a stunning debut. I read this book a while ago on a plane and got sucked into the story and oh my goodness, the food! I am such a sucker for food descriptions in books and this had plenty of it! I loved Emoni as a character, she was really real and fleshed out and I actually really enjoyed reading about a teen mother as I realise I don't think I've ever read another book with a teenaged mother as the protagonist. I loved the slightly fabulist element that reminded me of Roselle Lim's book, Natalie Tan's Book of Luck and Fortune - when Emoni cooks, her food is imbued with a little bit of magic that makes all of her food amazing. I loved Emoni's development. This was a really sweet story.
