I enjoyed reading this book but I also found the lead character Emoni slightly irritating.

She was a young mum of Babygirl (Emma) who was pretty much being raised by her grandmother (Gloria), who had also been responsible for raising Emoni when her mother died and father (Gloria's son) did a runner.

The plot essentially follows the life of Emoni as she struggles through high school, chooses a college, and then goes on a trip of a life-time to Spain.

It was a feel good story as everything always seems to go OK for Emoni despite her responsibilities.

The characters were all well-rounded and warm and were believable. They all had their background story which gave them depth.

Rather than empathising with Emoni I empathised with her grandmother who, through obligation and love gave up her life to raise 3 generations.

I would recommended this book for the writing style and the constant talk of food which all sounded absolutely delicious.
