I love YA literature, but I'm aware that most of what I consume is not at all diverse. So I was pleased to be given the chance to review this book, which feature a young woman of colour, a single parent who is trying to finish high school and provide a life for her young daughter.

Emoji wants to be a chef, and she's gifted in the kitchen, but her circumstances make it harder for her to achieve her dreams. Add into this a budding romance with the new boy at school, and this is a rich and warm story that I thoroughly enjoyed. I found myself throughly rooting for Emoji, and found myself thinking of her often after I had put the book down. Added to the cover is a delight; beautiful artwork makes it look beautiful on my shelf!
