Before I read the extract, I looked at the cover and saw nothing special. However after reading about Sara’s husband’s death, I noticed something on the cover. There is a small plank of wood and what seems like a bloody nail going through it, on the cover. This was a smart way to show the way Matthew died (nailed to the floor).
From reading the first chapter, we got a good insight into Sara’s and Matthew’s relationship. But there was still confusion as to why Matthew moved out of their house to live alone. This will most likely tie in with his cause of death but this will probably be explained throughout the novel as it continues.
The first few chapters were very intense; I was on edge. I was probably more nervous than the main character was when she entered Matthew’s home although there was a possibility of an intruder still being there.
However, the chapters that were told from the detective’s (Nathan Cody)point of view were quite confusing as there were many characters introduced and I lost track of who was who.
Overall, the writing style is immensely gripping (which is perfect for a thriller).
