What an opening sequence, eerie voicemail combined with the mundane tasks when you've returned home, culminating in a murder scene that is ony breifly described but leaves quite a vivid picture in my imagination. Loving it already.

On to the introduction to the police involved in this crime drama and, whilst it seems to be following the standard tropes ,the dialogue seems fresh and the unknown prior trauma and controversy is equally intriguing.

I've been reading a lot of crime fiction and the multiple angles, characters and hints of plot points already drawing me into this first look is a great sign.

In summary there's not really anything I didn't enjoy in this first sample, and having never read David Jackson before I am liking the tone and the standard of writing he has shown in these few pages.
