DS Cody finds himself in difficult straits that place both his life and his career at risk – not only is he fearful that his career will end due to his attending a police appointed psychiatrist but he is also watching the shadows as the clowns of his dreams are back for real.
As Waldo taunts him and he faces his worst nightmares he is also engulfed in the investigation of a particularly violent murder during which his judgement is called into question as does not believe that the wife of the victim was involved. His judgement is further called into question by the actions of the wife as time progresses.
While this is the latest of a series there is no need to have read the previous books as sufficient background is given to the main characters as the story goes along. The story also allows for the development of the overarching story in the next book.
