I felt quite cheated at the end of Your Deepest Fear. I know the author, David Jackson, is writing a series of books featuring DS Cody but, in my opinion, each book should stand alone. Not this one though, I got to the end of the book and it was really inconclusive. One part of the mystery had been solved but not it all. Perhaps he, or his publishers, think it's a smart marketing ploy to buy the subsequent books but it hasn't worked with me, I just feel irritated by his tactics. Considering this book in hardback retails at £18.99 I think readers are entitled to expect to get all the story. It's such a shame as this is a well-written book full of interesting characters with plenty of twists and turns in the plot. I was completely engrossed and enjoying the story unfolding only to find the end of the book was more like the end of a chapter. Readers should be aware they will need to buy subsequent books in the series if they want the complete story.
