David Jackson has invented a deeply troubled hero - DS Nathan Cody. Previously whilst working undercover Nathan’s partner is killed in a most gruesome manner and at the same time the killers chop off some of Nathan’s toes. This together with another traumatic child abductions case where he was injured, have left him almost at mental breaking point. His latest case is of a man killed while nailed to the floor. He starts unraveling as he investigates especially as the person who cut off his toes starts to taunt him.
This is a dark disturbing novel, quite well written but a little too far fetched for my taste. The characters are believable and quite well crafted. There are ends left hanging so you will be waiting for the next book in the series.
