I have not read any of David Jackson’s previous novels and consequently had no knowledge of DS Cody’s encounter with the “clowns”. This was a well written novel which, without going into a huge amount of detail, drip fed the new reader sufficient information to get to grips with what had happened previously. I enjoyed the relaxed writing style.
This is, mostly, a fast paced novel with lots of action and tension. I particularly enjoyed the courage and character of Sara Prior, whose husband was brutally murdered. Sara was not prepared to sit and weep over the loss of her husband but was determined to find out what had happened to him.
Who would kill this meek, mild and softly spoken man in such a brutal way?
