Once again we're in Liverpool and there's an extremely nasty murder. Sara Prior has returned from a trip to Denmark to find an enigmatic telephone message from her estranged husband. Mid call he screams and the message finishes. She goes to investigate at his home and finds his tortured body. Cody and co turn up, but Cody is stopped from seeing the body by his boss and sent to a psychologist so that his state of mind can be assessed after his previous investigation. He is then sent to interview Sara and discovers a woman who is not the model bereaved wife. In fact she isn't afraid to make her own investigation leading her to confront some of Liverpool's shadier characters. Meanwhile Cody is having a problem with clowns.
