I thought the introduction was engaging, it introduced Hildy before the plot line, which I liked because we experienced the reaction to the study with her. Her haphazard behaviour is endearing and something we wouldn't have got without the meeting with Jeff.
You (as a reader) are already rooting for Hildy - she's a likeable character- before you meet Paul. This means that the meeting of the two is entertaining and since we are aligned with Hildys desires, you want Paul to become good.
Since its a romance, the conflict, and banter is interesting as the novel will follow the story from them disliking each other to (hopefully!) Becoming a couple. We all become Jeff, routing from the side-line.
Over all the writing is fast paced and the tone is light. It feels like settling down with a friend for a gossip. I would love to read the rest of it now!
