Hilda, sorry Hildy, decides to sign up for a psychological experiment at the local university. When she finds out it is about "love" she stomps off, half destroying Jeff's office in the process. When she discovers that she has left the King Kong Puffer Fish in his office and has left with Jeff's Prince Charming Action Figure in hand she takes this as a sign that she should take part.
Paul just wants the money. He doesn't care what the experiment is about, just so long as he gets his $40.
Paired together this story tells the tale of "Bob & Betty" as they work through the 36 questions that are supposed to engender a relationship between them. Doesn't need to be love but friendship would suffice.
Told in a quirky format with large chunks of the book being either conversation laid out in a script format or Skype communications. There is enough prose in to keep the story moving forward and to get us to understand Hildy's point of view. The author has definitely sent quite a reasonable proportion of time listening in on conversations as they are genuinely awkward, argumentative and funny as many are.
I really enjoyed this book, it put a big smile on my face on a grey and chilly Friday afternoon.
