Couldn't finish it

I was disappointed in this book and after 2 weeks of slogging through it I realised I was only 200 pages through my heart sank and I gave up.

The story wasn't particularly engaging and being 200 pages in I found I didn't care enough about any of the characters, who killed who, what political message they were trying to get through and whether Salma would be able to see her grandchild.

There was a lot going on with a lot of characters introduced who, despite having different back stories started to blend together to the point I didn't really know what was going on and how they were all connected.

It starts with the murder of an MP (Linda) and some debate whether she or Salma, the private detective was the target. There seemed to be a sub-plot (or maybe the main plot) where a dead journalist had a USB with a breaking story about the child and family welfare department and Salma was working with an ex-copper/journalist to find out what it was.

If you can get past the dense, descriptive writing I'm sure there was a great plot there - but I genuinely couldn't care enough to finish it.
