Before I received this book, I’d never heard of Anne Holt before. A highly successful, Norwegian crime writer, Holt has a really gifted way with words. I really appreciate having the opportunity to delve into this world!

Personally for me, the premise of the book definitely has scope. The novel opens by showing the reader a high powered lawyer turned PI, Selma Flack, is shot and her oldest friend is murdered, the initial investigation points in the direction of Selma Flack being the target; her friend being the innocent victim.

Whilst these theory is fine to begin with, it is tested when two other people, with connections to the first victim, are found murdered, it’s obvious that there’s something bad and corrupt happening.

Selma does what she knows best and starts to seek our vengeance for her friends death. She’s desperate to learn the trust behind what’s happened and find out for once and for all what they conspiracy is.

This is all well and good but it means that her own life is in yet more danger.

Overall, I found the novel to be pacy and action packed. I’m really not a huge fan of sequels though so picking this one up in the middle of a series has been quite touch. Regardless, I found it to be a good read.
