True crime and how the criminal mind works has always been a fascinating topic for me, but I have never read anything like the story of the 13-year old schoolboy Graham Young who killed his stepmother before becoming a serial killer for around a decade, perhaps the youngest on record and one that has not been discussed until now. This overlooked story from the last century is finally told in a gripping way by an author who has clearly done her research. The fact that this boy's murder method of choice was poison also gives the tale a morbid twist. Carol Ann Lee is already a best-selling crime writer, so the personal story is told with great authority, while she also tackles more general issues concerning British society at the time. A truly fascinating and overlooked story and a book with a deceptively simple cover image but with hidden depth, I'd love the chance to read the rest of Young's story told by Lee.
