I enjoyed the central story to this book - a boy with a macabre fascination with poison and pharmacology doses those close to him, mostly just to watch the consequences although sometimes it seems it was as punishment for slights he felt they had made against him. Reading about how the justice and mental health systems reacted and interacted with Graham was fascinating and disturbing in equal measure. Also, the glimpse behind the walls of Broadmoor was an eye-opener, for sure.
What I found difficult though, was the amount of research detail that is included - it seemed to take me out of the story. This is completely a 'me' problem rather than a 'book quality' problem, the content of the research is amazingly thorough and, if you are writing a book about real events, necessary. It will have no doubt enriched a lot of readers experience with the book, just unfortunately not mine.
