I love a good crime thriller and I often love Scandinavian crime thrillers as the countries' wintry and cold climates make the stories all that bit more atmospheric - the cover alone is chilling! However, the story itself was a bit too slow for me - I found that it took a while to get into the story, which then led to the ending being more rushed than I would like. Also, the ending wasn't my cup of tea. I found it to be a bit far-fetched, which is a problem for me as I find that the power and suspense in crime thrillers is the potential that these things could happen to anyone. I did appreciate all of the social commentary about the town and why it is the way it is - dark and depressing, the kind of place that people tend not to leave. However, there was too much detail - and this is coming from a detail-oriented person, which detracted from the potential tension.
