A sleepy small town, a cold murder case, disappearances and a police officer with dementia; this book has a lot of story! Hanne is a police psychological profiler, called to the quiet town of Ormberg along with her partner and investigator Peter. Hanne is silently suffering from dementia and in order to keep this from her colleagues and so she can remember what happens each day she records everything in her diary . Out to reopen a case which has gone cold of a little girl found murdered in the woods ten years earlier, they go into that dense woodland to see where she was found. Something happens in amongst the trees and Hanne is later found wandering around confused and injured, Peter has totally disappeared. The diary which probably holds the key to what happened to them both is missing. As the local police search for Peter they find another murder victim in the woods and evidence that Hanne was there. The diary has been secretly found and as the police attempt to solve the crime, the reader is let in on little snippets of what happened out there.

I did find this book quite hard to get into at the beginning, but I am really pleased that I persevered as once it got going I really enjoyed it. Having the diary excerpts in amongst the story added to the intrigue and kept me guessing.
