I would not have expected a book with a dementia sufferer, Hanne, being a main character, to be so readable. The story is told from various characters viewpoints and Hannes diary. The story line starts with Hanne being found with no shoes running out of the forest and with no memory of what has happened. Her partner, Peter, an investigator is missing. Ten years previously a child’s remains were found and never identified. Hanne and Peter were part of a cold case investigation into it.
In places the novel is a little slow but it carries you along nicely for the most part. The characters are a little odd but perhaps the writer was trying to add extra layers to the story. The book is quite well written and does not have the awkwardness many translated books have.
Well worth a read.
