The year is 323BC and Alexander is dead. The Titan who held the Macedonian empire together has died without naming a successor. As the subtitle of the book says " To the Strongest"
This sets in motion a scrabble for the vacant seat of power. Friends become enemies and enemies become friends. Pacts are drawn up and alliances are forged. But these are built on shifting sands as the greed for political gives way to common sense. At first fortune seems to favour Perdikkas who has Alexander's ring.
Each person with a little bit of land and an army plots and schemes to wear Alexander's mantle.
In lots of ways this book reminds me of what happened to the state of Yugoslavia when Tito died. The power that held the waring states together disappears and anarchy reigns supreme !
