This book is simply brilliant! To write about the period after the death of Alexander the Great is no mean feat, but the author executes the political complexity and the civil warfare perfectly. But he goes beyond the period and really gets into the nitty gritty of Alexanders bodyguards, successors and military leaders and the character development is excellent, it truly is a book of political warfare. It is refreshing that despite there being so many male viewpoints, Fabbri does not shy away from giving women their own narration through Roxanna and Olympia which is done very well indeed.

The structure of the book is perfect for such a complex setting, each chapter is told from the narrators viewpoint whether it is Ptolemy, Perdikkas, Eumenes etc. This makes it clear to the reader which view point is telling their story, and you don't have to guess. Overall, it is a fabulous book I was very impressed which it and I really couldn't put it down!
