I have never read a historical fiction novel before this but decided to give this one a try!
My partner is a huge history fanatic he loves reading about different periods in history and was telling me about Alexander the Great as soon as i picked this book up. So to then be reading this with new knowledge was amazing.
The book I found could become easily confusing with so many different names closely resembling each other. I found the length of the chapters and the fact they were told from different perspectives much easier to follow, and quite an interesting brilliant first dabble into historical fiction.
Alexander left this earthly plain without naming a successor, so who will reign next? This book tells all and makes a great start to a series. I found myself thoroughly enjoying this book and reading the Roxanne and Olympias Chapters to begin with the most enjoyable as it was so interesting reading from a woman's point of view in an era where they did not have much power. I found myself rooting for Perdikkas and not knowing anything about this era in history at all It was entirely all a surprise to me and I would completely read more about different era in history now. It has sparked a new passion.
