If you had the opportunity to leave everything you’ve ever known behind and start a new, would you take it?

NASA has been sold to the highest bidder and the human race is just weeks away from beginning the long-awaited colonisation of Mars. Ascension follows the story of the 12 lucky young men and women who are soon to make history by going further than any man has gone before. Selected from millions of applicants, Leo and her shipmates all have nothing worth staying on Earth for, everything to hope for from their new life on Mars, and a secret they would rather stay hidden forever. Six boys and six girls, kept separate with the exception of 6 minutes a day when two of them will come together in the hope of finding their soul mate and falling in love. Every minute of the rest of their lives will take place on camera, transmitted back to Earth for the viewing pleasure of those they’ve left behind, and those who hope to follow in their footsteps. But what if it all goes wrong? It’s too late to turn back now…
I enjoyed this book from start to finish and would recommend it strongly to fans of the Hunger Games or the Chaos Walking series. The first of a trilogy, Ascension is a translation from the original French and this shows. The writing feels blunt in places and description is limited, which takes a bit of getting used to, but this takes nothing away from the suspense and emotion of the story. If you’re looking for a complex read which will challenge your vocabulary then this book isn’t for you. If want you want is a story that is exciting, refreshing and full of twist and turns then get your hands on a copy.

This book is a real page-turner, I just couldn’t finish it fast enough. Daniel Hahn better get translating because books 2 and 3 couldn’t get here soon enough.
