Ascension by Victor Dixen, and translated from the original French by Daniel Hahn, is a sci-fi novel about 12 teens aged between 16 and 19, 6 girls and 6 boys, who are selected for the ultimate reality TV show - they are being sent to populate Mars!

During their journey from earth, the genders are kept separate only meeting up for 6 minute long "speed dates" with the aim of pairing off and getting married when they land on Mars!

The story isn't set entirely on the spacecraft, there are also many mysterious subplots throughout the book, of which I won't talk about for fear of spoilers!

The only negative I found with the book was the dialogue, especially that of the space mission organisers. It was incredibly unbelievable at times and it also felt as though we were being spoonfed information in the form of dialogue, rather than finding out information throughout the course of the story.

Other than that I really enjoyed this book and I'm already looking forward to the next installment in the series!
