This book was beautifully written and a nice easy read. I like that it is partly based on a true story. It follows the story of Simone and Hava, unlikely friends who end up fleeing Belgium together during the war, when German soldiers are coming to attack. Simone's father goes missing and also Hava loses contact with her own family, fearing what has happened to them. The story is about their escape and their quest to reunite with their family once again. The character development is good and the settings are described brilliantly. I found that this book was a great page turner, which has short chapters, both of these keep me reading and make me not want to put it down. I found it a very powerful read and I think it would make a great read for anyone who likes reading war time stories, or books like The Tatooist of Auschwitz. I found the ending to be sad, how a friendship is brought to an end.
