I was first intrigued to read this book by the cover which stood out at me among the rest of the books. I also liked the look of the title and read some of the other reviews on the site which were pretty glowing. It all looked very positive but sadly this novel was not to my liking. I enjoyed some of the opening of the novel and they way the author takes us straight into the feeling of terror that must have been felt by everyone dealing with Nazi gunfire and bombing but I couldn't warm to the characters and couldn't feel that they were especially real to me. It is difficult to really care about characters that you cannot warm to. I feel that my opinion is in the minority but this was not really my cup of tea.
