Where to start...I knew this was going to be a difficult and emotional read, given that it's set during the events of World War 2...and I wasn't wrong.

The friendship between Catholic Simone Lyon and Jewish Hava Daniels is bittersweet throughout; a friendship that for both girls has no barriers, despite those horrifically imposed upon them.

We witness the scale of the horror as they attempt to flee the German invasion. The pace at which it reaches them is echoed in the writing - which moves the story along quickly.

The bravery of the two young girls, alone apart from each other, stays with you long after finishing the book. A poignant reminder that people are people, irrespective of background, faith etc.
