I was lucky to win a copy of this book and was intrigued by the blurb. This is not the sort of book that I would normally read but I am trying to expand on my normal reading material of thrillers and psychological thrillers and this is certainly something very different.
The book was beautifully written and very emotional. I cried on more than one occasion, which is a testament to the incredible writing and storyline.
Set in 1939 and 1940 it tells the take of Simone Lyon, the daughter of a Belgium national hero, General Joseph Lyon and her friendship with Hava Daniels, the daughter of a devout Jewish family. The tale explores themes such as friendship and survival during a tumultuous war and is a fantastic read. Highly recommended.
